The leadership of the Turkish defense Industry called the timing of the creation of a domestic analogue of the Russian S-400 air defense system. They assume that it will take at least six years to develop a system with similar technical characteristics.
This assessment was given by the head of the Turkish Department of Defense Industry Ismail Demir in an interview with the local TV channel TRT.
Demir also recalled that Ankara has purchased S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in Russia, which are in service with the Turkish Armed Forces. According to him, in the country's air defense system, only they provide protection from high-range ballistic missiles from all available means. Basically, that's why it was purchased from Russia.
- the official said.
However, these systems are not constantly in an active state, so that their resource can be spent more economically.
- said the head of the department in charge of the defense industry of Turkey.
He noted that in the event of threats, it will not take much time to bring the S-400 complexes into an active state.
At the moment, the Turkish Armed Forces have four divisions of the S-400 air defense system. They were purchased from Russia in 2019 for $ 2.5 billion. As Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later explained, the main reason for concluding this deal was the refusal of the Americans to sell their Patriot complexes to Ankara.
