Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee Michael Roth believes that maintaining neutrality in the current situation is beneficial to RussiaBERLIN, April 18.
/tass/. The chairman of the Bundestag (German Parliament) committee on foreign Policy, Michael Roth (Social Democratic Party of Germany), believes that Switzerland's neutrality in the situation around Ukraine and its refusal to allow the transfer of ammunition produced in the confederation to Kiev by other countries play into Moscow's hands.
According to him, maintaining neutrality in the current situation is beneficial to Russia. Roth said this in an interview with the editorial association Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND), which he gave on Tuesday in light of the visit to Berlin by Swiss President Alain Berset.
He noted that he was "very disappointed" by the actions of the confederation authorities. "In future military cooperation, such behavior must be taken into account. I see no reason to purchase military goods from Switzerland," the deputy said.
In turn, the chairman of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman (Free Democratic Party), in an interview with the RND, said that Switzerland allegedly "should decide which side of history it wants to be on."
Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Berse will meet later on Tuesday. Earlier, the Swiss authorities rejected a request from Germany, Denmark and Spain to supply Kiev with ammunition produced in the confederation. It is expected that this issue, among others, will be raised during the negotiations between the Chancellor and the president.
At the same time, Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU, supported, despite its neutral status, the EU sanctions against Russia announced in connection with the special military operation in Ukraine. The Russian government approved in March last year a list of foreign states and territories that commit unfriendly actions against Russia, its companies and citizens. The Swiss Confederation is included in this list.
