In Russia, they will create a smartphone connection with satellites According to Alexander Bloshenko, executive director of one of the directions of Roscosmos, the company's specialists will create a satellite communication technology that will allow voice calls to be made using a conventional smartphone without the use of subscriber equipment.
According to the top manager, work will begin this year, thanks to which the Russian satellite system will be supplemented by "another echelon" - we are talking about the start of the system design of the future grouping. Apparently, we are talking about an orbital grouping of domestic satellites with the name "Sphere", which is designed to provide residents of the country with the Internet of things, and remote areas with communications. Its first satellite was sent into orbit in the fall of 2022. It is this grouping that will be supplemented by the possibility of providing calls by launching additional "hundreds of vehicles" into orbits of about 2000 km.
A test of a similar solution from Qualcomm It should be noted here that the world has been working on similar solutions for a long time, providing direct communication between satellites and smartphones, but so far they represent the possibility of transmitting SMS or a very small amount of data.
However, the leading mobile chipmakers represented by Apple, Qualcomm and MediaTek do not stop and are actively working in this direction.
