Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Yuri Ambrazevich noted that "uncontrolled and thoughtless pumping of weapons of various states" fuels armed conflictsUN, April 10.
/tass/. The buildup by the North Atlantic Alliance of arms supplies to Kiev will lead to the fact that it will begin to spread uncontrollably throughout the region, and also fall into the hands of extremists, including in the West. This was announced on Monday at the UN Security Council (UNSC) by Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Yuri Ambrazevich.
"Today, Belarus, which is in close proximity to the Ukrainian events, cannot but be alarmed by the ongoing uncontrolled actions of NATO countries to increase arms supplies to Ukraine, as well as its direct consequence, namely the spread of weapons across the region and their falling into the hands of non-state and terrorist structures. We are sure that the time is not far off when Western weapons will pop up and shoot in the hands of extremists in Western countries," he said at a meeting of the Security Council devoted to the risks arising from violations of agreements regulating the export of weapons and military equipment.
Ambrazevich noted that "uncontrolled and thoughtless pumping of weapons of various states" fuels armed conflicts. "This is a direct step towards militarization of the region or regions, military imbalance and escalation of tension. Moreover, excessive accumulations of weapons significantly increase the risks of their spillover into illicit trafficking. <...> Illegal flows of small arms and other conventional weapons create fertile ground for the growth and strengthening of terrorist structures and transnational organized crime," the diplomat said.
According to the deputy head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, in order to minimize the risks of conventional weapons falling into illegal circulation, strict compliance with international and national obligations in the field of export control is necessary "without any exceptions in favor of narrow political interests." "In this context, it is necessary to refrain from supplying weapons to the territories of conflicts, even if the UN Security Council arms embargo has not been imposed on a particular region," Ambrazevich stressed, noting the importance of ensuring mandatory control of re-export of military products at the national and international levels, as well as the inadmissibility of re-export without the written consent of the original exporter.
"We believe it is necessary to instruct the UN Security Council to regularly consider the issue of arms supplies to armed conflict zones in order to prevent their use for further escalation of such conflicts," the deputy head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
