INTERFAX - The meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, Turkey and Syria has been postponed due to the position of Damascus, which demands the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syrian territory before participating in negotiations with Ankara, Arab media reported, citing an informed source.
In addition, according to the interlocutor of journalists, before such a meeting, Syria puts forward as conditions the termination of Ankara's support for the armed formations fighting against Damascus and interference in the internal affairs of the SAR.
At the same time, according to the source, Turkey has not yet responded to Syria's demands in any way.
On the eve of the Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Efimov in an interview with the newspaper "Al-Watan" said that the quadrilateral meeting was postponed to the beginning of May.
"In order to achieve positive results on this issue, contacts and consultations between the parties are continuing," he said.
On Monday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that preparations for the meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, Turkey and Syria are continuing, and the sooner it takes place, the better.
