Today, Russia celebrates the Day of the Air Defense Forces, and their personnel carry out their difficult and dangerous service in the zone of a special military operation. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has published video footage of the operation of the Niobium radar, the specifics of which are described by the head of the radar station.
The Niobium radar is engaged in scanning the airspace within a radius of 50 kilometers. With the help of radar, hundreds of objects in the air are simultaneously monitored. The station determines the type of objects, their belonging to a certain state. If dangerous targets are detected, the information is transmitted to the command post. There, a decision is made which air defense unit will accompany the air target and its subsequent destruction.
According to the head of the radar station, the Niobium radar is used to detect and track aerodynamic and ballistic targets by air defense forces. In addition, the station has the function of direction finding sources of radio interference. The data is processed by the station automatically. Then the ready-made information is transmitted to the air defense forces to escort and destroy air targets.
With the help of the Niobium radar, not only planes and helicopters of the Ukrainian air forces are detected in the special operation zone, but also unmanned aerial vehicles, which are not the easiest task to detect. But the radar station, which recently entered service with the air defense units of the ground forces, successfully copes with these tasks, the Russian military department notes.
