The other day, the US Department of Defense announced the transfer of special weapons to Ukraine to combat unmanned aerial vehicles. This is reported by the American edition of Defense One with reference to the state company SAIC.
Officially, these weapons appear in the new package of military assistance to Ukraine, presented by the Pentagon on April 4, as experimental "mobile anti-UAV missile systems with laser guidance." In total, they are transferred to Ukraine 10 pieces. Earlier, the US Army held a tender for the purchase of anti-Iranian drone systems Shahed-136.
SAIC reported that 10 anti-drone complexes will indeed be sent to Ukraine. One shot from such a complex costs less than 30 thousand dollars, which is much cheaper than the air defense missiles that Ukrainian troops use today.
It is known about the anti-drone complexes that during the tests they detected the UAV of a conditional enemy at a distance of 10 kilometers. The complex can hit the target at a distance of 5 kilometers, although the military department put forward much more modest requirements for hitting the target at a distance of 2 kilometers.
In addition, the complex is equipped with an M240 machine gun and an electronic warfare system. With the help of the electronic warfare system, it is possible to establish control over a commercial unmanned aerial vehicle. Thus, it will be possible to disable any models of the Chinese company DJI, which are not protected by advanced encryption, but are actively used in the zone of a special military operation.
Recall that the attacks of Russian drones seriously concern Ukrainian formations, as they bring a lot of problems to air defense systems, military and infrastructure facilities.
