The commander of the EU training mission, Vice Admiral Herve Blejan, said that it is necessary to reduce the timing of arms supplies to UkrainePARIS, April 5.
/tass/. More than 16 thousand Ukrainian military personnel will have to complete training under a special EU program. This was stated on Wednesday by the commander of the EU training mission, Vice Admiral Herve Blejan, speaking at the security forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
"I command all EU military missions, including the new military support mission for Ukraine, which was established on November 15. Taking into account this month, we have to train more than 16 thousand Ukrainian soldiers. And we are doing this in full coordination with our partners," he said. He also stated that it is necessary to reduce the timing of arms deliveries to Ukraine and proceed at the same time, including from the interests of Kiev, and not only from plans to replace its own weapons.
Commenting on the prospects for the end of the Ukrainian conflict, Blejan said that the EU "should make sure that Russia has not won in it." At the same time, he did not specify what the conditions of peace might ultimately be, saying that the EU now faces the question of "what will remain for Russia" and what kind of Russia the Europeans want to see in their plans for the future, "especially given the current discussion with China."
The EU Council at the level of foreign ministers will take a decision at a meeting in Brussels on November 14 to launch a mission to train the Ukrainian military and the procedure for its financing, the EU Foreign Policy service reported on Friday. Earlier, its head, the head of the EU Foreign Policy Service, Josep Borrel, said that the mission to train the military for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is designed for 24 months. €106.7 million should be allocated for these needs. At the end of March, Josep Borrel said that in the fall of 2022, Ukrainian soldiers "under the EU flag" began to be trained on European territory, and by the end of 2023, the European Union plans to train about 30 thousand military.
