In mid-June 2023, the Serbian Armed Forces will participate in the Platinum Wolf military exercises, held under the patronage of the United States and with the participation of 10 other states. This was announced by Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic on the B92 TV channel.
Interestingly, in February 2022, the Serbian authorities announced the termination of any military exercises together with the armies of other states and military blocs. But then Belgrade still agreed to conduct maneuvers in the southern part of Serbia.
The head of the Serbian military department, Vucevic, said that the decision to conduct the exercises was public, it was taken by the Serbian government. Thus, he responded to possible claims from those Serbs who are dissatisfied with such military cooperation between Belgrade and Washington and its allies.
Recall that the military exercises "Platinum Wolf" have traditionally been held at the Serbian military base "Yug" near the city of Bujanovac since 2014. In 2021, in addition to the Serbian army, the armed forces of the United States, Great Britain, France, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in the maneuvers. It should be noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina, like Serbia, is not part of the North Atlantic Alliance, but is a participant in the Partnership for Peace program.
Meanwhile, a quarter of a century has not passed since NATO planes bombed Belgrade, and many Serbian children, and adults, are still experiencing the consequences of the use of depleted uranium ammunition during the aggression against Yugoslavia.
