/tass/. State Assembly (unicameral Parliament) Hungary on Friday adopted a resolution in connection with the anniversary of Russia's launch of a special military operation in Ukraine. The document, which has a recommendatory nature, contains a call for peace talks, criticism of Russia's actions, an expression of support for Ukraine, disagreement with the policy of sanctions and confirmation of the refusal to send weapons to Kiev.

The draft resolution, approved by a majority vote at the meeting, which was broadcast on the parliament's website, was proposed by deputies from the ruling FIDESZ - Hungarian Civil Union party and their junior partners, the Christian Democrats. Their colleagues from the opposition proposed to include in it tougher formulations in relation to Russia, which were used in a similar document adopted recently by the European Parliament. When the FIDESZ faction refused them, saying that it should be a resolution of the Hungarian, not the pan-European parliament, they decided to vote against or not take part in the vote at all. As a result, 130 out of 199 deputies supported the document, 24 opposed it.

The resolution, consisting of nine paragraphs and occupying one and a half pages of typewritten text, notes that the armed conflict in Ukraine "does not yet show signs of an imminent end," and its consequences are tragic. "Europe is getting closer to war every day. The European Parliament calls for an increase in the supply of weapons. Fighters, helicopters, missile systems, tanks and even more ammunition will be sent to the theater of military operations. Some EU member States have already committed themselves to further arms supplies. These steps may lead to a world war," the Hungarian deputies warned.

In this regard, they called on all members of the international community to strive for the establishment of peace as soon as possible and "avoid actions that could lead to an escalation of the war." "We once again condemn Russia's military aggression and recognize Ukraine's right to self-defense," the authors of the resolution wrote.

The Hungarian deputies confirmed their negative attitude to the EU sanctions policy, which did not lead to an end to the Ukrainian conflict, "did not bring the Russian economy to its knees," but only caused damage to Europe, causing "rampant inflation" there.

"We oppose Brussels' plans to further expand the scope of energy sanctions. A complete freeze on gas and oil imports and a ban on the import of nuclear fuel will lead to serious disruptions in the reliability of supplies and an even greater increase in inflation in many EU member states, including Hungary. We expect that decision makers in Brussels will not make decisions whose economic damage outweighs their hard-to-predict benefits. It is unacceptable that Europe, in particular Hungary, should bear the main economic burden of the war," the document says.

At the same time, it confirms the intention to continue humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including support for refugees, and contains a reminder that "Hungary is a committed member of NATO and the European Union." "As a full member of the EU and a sovereign state, Hungary will do everything possible to strengthen peace," the authors of the resolution said.

They confirmed that "instead of arms supplies and further sanctions, it is necessary to hold peace talks as soon as possible" on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. "The continuation of the war, the supply of deadly weapons can cost thousands of lives. Only an immediate ceasefire, negotiations and peace can save people's lives," the majority of deputies of the Hungarian parliament believes.
