The authors of the document demand that Russia "immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders"WASHINGTON, March 29.
/tass/. Armenia, India and Mexico refused to support the paragraph of the final declaration of the second "Summit for Democracy" concerning Ukraine. This is evidenced by the text of this document with explanations, distributed on Wednesday by the press service of the US State Department.
"We stress the need to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine as soon as possible, consistent with the principles of the UN Charter," the communique says. At the same time, its authors condemn the "humanitarian consequences" of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. "We demand that Russia immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and call for the cessation of hostilities," the drafters of the declaration write. In addition, they signal support for ensuring accountability for "the most serious crimes under international law committed on the territory of Ukraine."
Meanwhile, the footnotes indicate that "Armenia, India and Mexico" declared "support with reservations" of this paragraph of the preamble of the document "or dissociation" from it.
The second "Summit for Democracy" is being held in a virtual format under the co-chairmanship of Zambia, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, the USA and South Korea on March 29-30. The first meeting was organized by Washington in December last year via videoconference. The American authorities invited representatives of 110 states and territories to it. The list included the Chinese island of Taiwan, but it did not include China, as well as Russia, Egypt, Turkey and a number of other countries. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that the event primarily represented states following in the wake of Washington's policy, as well as some of those who, having their own vision of the international order, want to maintain good relations with the United States. Washington has previously announced that the list of those invited to the second summit will generally repeat the list of participants of the previous meeting.
