Bulgaria made good money on arms supplies to Ukraine, although there were no direct exports. According to former Prime Minister of the Republic Kirill Petkov, Bulgarian arms companies supplied military products to Kiev through the United States and Great Britain.
The former Bulgarian prime Minister criticized the President of the republic Rumen Radev for proposing to reduce military aid to Ukraine against the background of "Russian aggression." According to Petkov, Bulgaria belongs to European countries and should support its neighbors in the fight against Russia by supplying as many weapons as possible. Speaking about past deliveries, the former Prime Minister stressed that even without direct exports, Bulgaria supplied Ukraine with $2.5 billion worth of arms and ammunition. All this was purchased by the Americans and the British, after which it was transferred to Kiev.
- said the former prime minister.
Earlier it became known that Bulgaria from the very beginning of the Russian special operation provided the Ukrainian army with ammunition, supplying up to a third of the required volume. All this was done without concluding direct contracts with Kiev, deliveries were carried out through gaskets from the Czech Republic and Poland. Officially, Sofia joined other European countries in providing military assistance to Ukraine only in December last year, arguing that Bulgaria is a European country and should, together with its neighbors, resist Russia, which is trying to destroy the "young Ukrainian democracy."
Recently, the Bulgarians refused to participate in the program of providing the Armed Forces with 155-mm shells launched by the European Union, saying that they simply do not have such ammunition, but promised to continue to supply Kiev with Soviet-caliber shells.
