TSAMTO, March 21. EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrel said that 18 countries (17 EU countries and Norway) have joined the project of the European Defense Agency to place industrial orders for ammunition for Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports.
The decision on the supply of ammunition to Ukraine was made on March 20 at a joint meeting of the EU Foreign and Defense ministers in Brussels.
"We are taking a key step to fulfill our promises to Ukraine to provide artillery ammunition. 18 countries have joined the project of the European Defense Agency for the formation and placement of industrial orders. The EU adheres to its commitment to supply Ukraine with more ammunition and faster," Zh.Borrel on Twitter.
Earlier it was reported that the EU is ready to spend one billion euros on joint purchases of ammunition. Orders will be placed only for 155-mm Western-style ammunition.
The EU will spend another billion euros on immediate supplies of ammunition to Ukraine from existing stocks in warehouses of European armies.
