Dubai. March 19. INTERFAX - The authorities of Iran and Iraq on Sunday signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of security, which, in particular, provides for strengthening the protection of the border between the two countries, Tasnim reports.
The document was signed by the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani and the National Security Adviser of Iraq Qasem al-Araji.
Tasnim notes that the agreement is expected to play a significant role in putting an end to the presence of anti-Iranian armed groups and forces associated with Israel in the regions of Iraq bordering Iran.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian stated that a number of Western countries condoned unrest in Iran, and also armed militants in neighboring Iraqi Kurdistan. He stressed that the Iranian authorities are working in close coordination with the Iraqi side, which has promised to strengthen the security of the Iraqi border in the area of Iraqi Kurdistan.
