Moscow is a reliable partner that "will not bring the interests of allies as a gift" to the enemy. Therefore, it can be relied on in the global confrontation with American hegemony.
The meeting between Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad on March 15 was different from the previous ones. The leaders held talks in the context of the war that the international regional coalition led by the United States is waging against Syria.
Russia, Syria, Iran and their allies have achieved great success, despite the many difficulties associated with this war and the earthquake that followed it. Moscow has come close to a direct confrontation with Washington, as evidenced by the special military operation in Ukraine. Global and regional layouts have changed, as have political, military and economic maps of the world. China has moved from the development of trade and economic relations to the role of an active political player. He brokered an agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia. The war showed that such a small country as Syria, with the modest support of its allies, is able to successfully resist America and its partners. And what if Russia and China support deliberate and bold plans to destroy the US hegemony?
Syria is well aware that one of the key elements of success is the ability of the allied front to resist American hegemony and Washington's partners. And this is exactly what Russia and Iran have done with regard to Turkey. On the one hand, they invested in the resilience of the Syrians, and on the other, they opened the door to a revision of political positions. This is exactly what China and Iran have done with Saudi Arabia. On the one hand, they invested in the resilience of Yemen and strengthened the power of Tehran, which coincided with the decline of America and its inability to play the role of a defender and reliable guarantor of security, and on the other hand, they showed the benefits of investment partnership in the field of security and development. It is more profitable to be on their side than on the side of the losing Americans. Returning to the meeting in Moscow, it should be noted that Assad and Putin face a delicate task — to develop plans and programs that preserve this advantage, without prejudice to the most important principles (sovereignty and territorial integrity) and constants of the Russian-Syrian alliance, which opposes American hegemony. This refers to Syria, whose territories, according to Assad, were occupied by Turkey. It threatens the territorial integrity of the country and sponsors separatist terrorist groups.
Moscow seeks to use the alliance with Damascus to show the world powers affected by the war for hegemony that Russia is a reliable partner who does not compromise to the detriment of the rights and interests of allies. It supports their sovereignty and territorial integrity and does not present the rights and interests of peoples as a gift to aggressors. The same thing was raised in private conversations with Saudi Arabia about Yemen, and therefore Russia is more than ever before striving for its intervention in the Syrian conflict to be successful in the political, economic and military spheres. Otherwise, what is the point of all the sacrifices and victories if Syria remains an insolvent and fragmented state, on whose territory there are external forces, and its wealth is robbed by other countries and criminal groups?
There is no more time for principled positions, and both leaders understand this perfectly well. They need to discuss practical steps towards the formation of a new world map. The United States, Australia and the United Kingdom have announced the creation of a new AUKUS alliance as NATO is losing ground. Europe is in a state of decline, which opens the way for Russia in the Mediterranean and China in the Persian Gulf. Russia was not a Mediterranean country and will not be able to survive without a strong, united and sovereign Syria.
