The former assistant to the American president for national security noted that NATO was "afraid of threats from Moscow" regarding the possible escalation of the crisisNEW YORK, March 16.
/tass/. The leadership of the Russian Federation managed to prevent a decisive response to the Ukrainian crisis from the United States and its NATO allies, who demonstrate a lack of strategic plans. This assessment was made by the former assistant to the American president for national security John Bolton in an author's article published on Wednesday on the website of The Wall Street Journal newspaper.
According to Bolton, NATO was "afraid of threats from Moscow" regarding a possible escalation of the crisis, while Biden "could not, and did not really try" to prevent the conflict. At the same time, the Russian leadership, according to Bolton, "masterfully prevented a NATO response that would have been decisive enough to ensure a speedy and victorious end to the conflict."
"Moscow's successful intimidation shows Washington's inability to clearly define its goals in the conflict and build a strategy to achieve them. Biden wants Russia to lose, but he is afraid of Ukraine's victory," the former adviser to the previous US President Donald Trump believes. According to Bolton, "ambiguous goals [of the United States] and fears of escalation by Russia have led to the current military impasse." At the same time, "Russia's deterrence and the lack of a NATO strategy are confirmed by internal disagreements in NATO about what weapons to supply to Ukraine."
"The current policy of the White House boils down to the fact that we are helping Ukraine to defend itself, but not so much that it has too much effect," Bolton writes, noting that such an approach is fraught with risks both for Ukraine and for the United States itself. According to him, "stocks of key weapons are being depleted, and there is not enough capacity to replenish them now." As a former Trump aide stated, the indecision of the Biden administration hinders the conduct of hostilities by the Ukrainian military and "opens political doors to those who oppose military assistance from the United States."
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 last year about the holding of the SVO in Ukraine in connection with the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are demilitarization and denazification of the country. The West, in response to Russia's decision, began gradually imposing numerous and large-scale sanctions against it. Along with this, Western states have begun to supply weapons and military equipment to Kiev for amounts estimated at this stage in billions of dollars. Some Western politicians have admitted that it is, in fact, an economic war against Russia. As Putin stated on March 16, the Western sanctions policy towards Moscow has all the signs of aggression. He pointed out that the policy of containing Russia is a long-term strategy of the West.
