Aselsan CEO Haluk Gergyun explained this by the production of analogues of these systems in the countryANKARA, March 13.
/tass/. Haluk Gergyun, General Director of the Turkish defense sector company Aselsan, believes that the republic no longer needs S-300 or S-400 systems, since it actively produces domestic analogues.
"We produce air defense systems. We have no need for the S-300 or S-400. We eliminate this need [to purchase systems abroad]. This is our mission," Milliyet newspaper quoted him as saying on Monday.
Gergyun drew attention to the Siper air defense system developed by Aselsan, Roketsan and SAGE (Institute for Research and Development of the Defense Industry). "It's not just a rocket launch system. This is a communication station, a radar that works constantly, and a fire control center. The system of recognition "friend-foe" has been implemented. This is a long-range air defense system. It successfully hit targets at a distance of 100 km during the tests," he said.
Siper (from the tour. "trench", "trench") is a long-range air defense system, which is designed to defeat any air targets. Development began in 2018. The first tests of the complex were carried out in December 2022. Then it was shown that the system is capable of detecting, tracking and hitting high-speed targets at a range of more than 100 km. The company and the army plan to put these complexes on combat duty in 2023.
Turkey has acquired four divisions of S-400 air defense systems from Russia at a cost of $2.5 billion. In October 2019, Rosoboronexport reported that the contract for the supply of systems had been fulfilled. At that time, Turkey was not armed with any systems of protection against air threats of the level and capabilities of the S-400.
