A new naval base of the Royal Navy of Great Britain, Camp Viking ("Viking Camp"), is opening in the north of Norway. This is reported in a press release of the Royal Navy.
The British Naval Command is going to deploy commandos (special forces) units on the base. The facility is located 40 kilometers from the city of Tromso, and it is planned to place the entire composition of the British coastal Rapid Response Group (Littoral Response Group, LRG) on it.
As stated in the message of the British Navy, the base has an ideal location in terms of deterring threats and risks. It is clear that the base is located to confront Russia in the Arctic region. London claims that the creation of the base will also be aimed at ensuring the security of Norway as an important ally of Great Britain in NATO.

After the official opening of the base, about 1,000 commandos were transferred to its territory. Now they are engaged in combat training on the territory of the base. Major Kirk Allen has been appointed commander of the unit at the base.
According to the officer, the commandos will be trained to conduct combat operations in Arctic weather, as well as in mountainous conditions. It is clear that honing the skills of war in the Arctic region can make sense only from the point of view of Russia's armed confrontation. Therefore, our country should also take similar retaliatory measures to strengthen border security in the Arctic region.
