The Japanese defense industry has engaged in the development of an electromagnetic railgun. There will be funds for it, since Japan is doubling budget expenditures on defense development, including the creation of a railgun.

This is reported by the American magazine National Defense.

According to Shigenori Mishima, Vice Commissioner and Technical Director of the Agency for Procurement, Technology and Logistics, Tokyo intends to invest heavily in advanced military technologies due to the growth of potential threats from China and North Korea.

The security situation around Japan is becoming increasingly severe at an unprecedented pace, and neighboring countries are strengthening their military capabilities

a high-ranking official said.

He said Tokyo aims to bring its defense spending to two percent of the country's budget by 2027. In particular, during this time, it will increase spending on defense development and research four and a half times, to $ 26 billion.

Among the main areas of investment, it is worth noting the means of anti-aircraft and anti-ship defense to protect the islands, ultra-high-speed barrage ammunition, hypersonic missiles, a fighter of the latest generation and much more.

The investment portfolio also includes research on electromagnetic railgun technology, which the United States had previously abandoned after years of research.

This weapon uses ammunition without explosives. They are accelerated to an ultra-high speed with the help of electromagnetic force. The energy with which the strike is applied allows causing significant damage to enemy ships or other affected objects.
