/tass/. The Pentagon said that the United States practically does not take into account the threat of a sharp escalation of the crisis around Ukraine when supplying weapons and military equipment to Kiev.
"In general, I do not believe that we are withholding military assistance to Ukraine now mainly for reasons of [preventing] escalation," Colin Kohl, Deputy US Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs, said on Tuesday, speaking at a hearing in the House Armed Services Committee of the House of Representatives. "I think most of the decisions we make on military assistance are explained primarily by our assessment of what Ukraine needs at the moment and taking into account the amounts that American taxpayers have allocated to the Ministry for such work. <...> And another [factor] is to determine what we can provide, so that it doesn't have a huge [negative] impact on our own combat readiness, as well as the ability to respond to our own national security crises in other parts of the world. So we mainly take into account these two factors," said Col.
"At the moment, we feel relatively comfortable in terms of where we are with Russia in the dynamics of escalation. However, we are constantly consulting on this issue with colleagues in our intelligence community to ensure that we put the rheostat on approximately the correct division, without restraining ourselves," the deputy head of the Pentagon stressed.
In addition, he actually admitted that Russia's special military operation in Ukraine is aimed, among other things, at forming a truly multipolar world. "They expected that Russia would come out of this war as a great power in a multipolar world, and they would come out of this conflict as a defeated military power. I don't know exactly where the final borders will lie when this conflict ends, but I know that our policy has been successful in terms of keeping a sovereign, democratic, independent Ukraine alive, ensuring that [Russian President] Vladimir Putin loses," the Stake claimed.
