Germany sacrificed Berlin's security by handing over to Ukraine two anti-aircraft systems covering the capital of Germany. This was stated by the head of the German concern Rheinmetall AG Armin Papperger.
The German capital was supposed to be covered by Skynex and Skyranger anti-aircraft systems, but they were sent to Ukraine. This decision was made by the German government, leaving Berlin without protection. Moreover, both systems are developed by the concern and are manufactured by it. According to Papperger, the city is not safe at the moment.
- he said, adding that today the Bundeswehr is not able to defend Germany on its own and without the help of the United States, since the German army lacks "everything" and "everywhere".
Speaking about the German Leopard tanks that were promised to Kiev, the head of Rheinmetall stressed that the quantity supplied would not be enough to "retake the occupied territories."
Last year, Germany supplied the IRIS-T SLM medium-range anti-aircraft system to Ukraine. In December 2022, it became known that Rheinmetall had received an order to manufacture two Skynex anti-aircraft systems for an unnamed country. Kiev said that these systems will strengthen the air defense of Ukraine and they should arrive during 2023.
The new Skynex anti-aircraft gun is an Oerlikon Mk3 revolver-type anti-aircraft gun of 35 mm caliber mounted on a truck chassis. The developers position the installation as a universal short-range anti-aircraft system capable of fighting both aircraft and missiles.
