/tass/. China has not consulted with Ukraine about its peace plan, and this raises doubts about the seriousness of Beijing's intentions. This statement was made on Monday at a regular briefing by the head of the press service of the US State Department, Ned Price.
"If China was serious about ending this war, it would have a constructive influence on the authorities in Moscow. High-level contacts between Russia and China have recently given reason for concern, despite the fact that Beijing does not make the same contacts with Ukraine. This tells us that this is probably not a serious proposal," he said in response to a request to comment on Washington's attitude to Beijing's plan.
On February 24, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published a document outlining its position on the political settlement of the situation in Ukraine. It includes 12 points, including calls for a ceasefire, respect for the legitimate interests of all countries in the field of security, the fight against the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the exchange of prisoners of war between Moscow and Kiev, as well as the refusal to impose unilateral sanctions without a corresponding decision of the UN Security Council. In the document, China called dialogue and negotiations "the only way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine" and called on all parties to support Moscow and Kiev in "moving towards each other", as well as in resuming direct dialogue as soon as possible. It was stressed that the international community should create conditions and provide a platform for resuming negotiations.
