The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation said that the North Atlantic Alliance has de facto become a participant in the conflict in UkraineMOSCOW, February 28.
/tass/. The North Atlantic Alliance has de facto turned into a participant in the Ukrainian conflict and is no longer acting as a conditional opponent, but as an enemy of Russia. This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
Answering the question about the reasons for the suspension of Russia's participation in the DSNV, the Kremlin representative noted that the situation for Russia has changed dramatically compared to the time of the adoption of this document. According to Peskov, "NATO has de facto become a participant in the conflict in Ukraine."
"In fact, now NATO acts as a single bloc no longer as our conditional opponents, but enemies. Their intelligence is working against us 24 hours a day, their weapons, as stressed by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, in a recent interview, is supplied to Ukraine for free and shoots at our military - I'm not even talking about shooting at Ukrainian citizens, shelling Ukrainian towns and villages - commitments are made and collective decisions are made within NATO on new supplies, on new batches of weapons with a constant increase in their technical level."- said the press secretary of the president.
As Peskov stressed, the DSN remains the only "more or less living" document in the field of arms control and strategic security, but Putin in his message "explained quite exhaustively" why he decided to suspend Russia's participation in this agreement. During the preparation of the treaty, the press secretary recalled, the nuclear arsenals of France and Great Britain were left out of its brackets, which, although not comparable in power and volume with the arsenals of the Russian Federation and the United States, "but are quite significant for the entire system of European strategic security."
However, the United States, Britain, and France are in the same organization, which is now "de facto at war" with the Russian Federation, is in a state of direct armed confrontation, given the supply of weapons to Ukraine. "There is no need to hide anything, smooth out anything, you need to call a spade a spade. They should understand this, although it is probably noticeable how sensitive they are in this area, they repeat every time like a mantra that they do not want to be participants in the conflict," Peskov concluded.
