John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, asked partners to "do everything possible to support Ukraine"WASHINGTON, February 27.
/tass/. The United States Administration considers the decision of Saudi Arabia to allocate humanitarian aid to Ukraine in the amount of $410 million "a step in the right direction." This was stated on Monday at a regular briefing for journalists by the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council (NSC) of the White House, John Kirby.
"The statement made at the weekend by [Saudi Arabia] we see it as a step in the right direction. It is very important that they actually went to Kiev and through their Ministry of Foreign Affairs directly promised $400 million in the form of energy, infrastructure and financial assistance. So this is a positive step. We are glad to see it," Kirby said.
"We ask all partners to do everything possible to support Ukraine. We recognize that these are sovereign decisions that they have to make. The initiative of Saudi Arabia is a positive step on the part of the Middle East region, and we hope to see more from our partners located there in the coming months," the official representative of the National Security Council added.
On Sunday, at a press conference in the Ukrainian capital, the kingdom's Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, said that Riyadh had decided to allocate humanitarian aid to Kiev in the amount of $410 million. In addition, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding providing for the supply of petroleum products to Ukraine. Saudi Arabia's foreign minister on Sunday made his first visit to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries in 1993.
