NGHTS Guidance Device In the near future, the US Marine Corps will receive a new generation portable guidance system from Northrop Grumman — NGHTS.
The advanced device combines functions that were previously performed by four separate devices.
The portable lightweight case (the total weight of the device is 4.5 kg) houses a rangefinder, two Joint Terminal Attack Controller laser designators with different operating modes and a thermal imaging subsystem.
NGHTS Guidance Device NGHTS is based on three thermal imagers — for daytime operation, in low light and in complete darkness.
Positioning is provided by a high-precision GPS receiver and an astronomical compass. It is reported that it can be used to determine the location of the sun and stars with an accuracy of fractions of a degree. The device works effectively at any time of the day, in any light, in any conditions, including fog, extreme temperatures, with strong vibrations and elevation changes. Having NGHTS with them, marines will be able to report coordinates for aiming artillery and missile strikes, ensuring the operation of aircraft, warships, as well as illuminating targets with a laser at long distances.
