Al-Watan Syria: in the conflict imposed by the West with Russia, Kiev has lost more than it has gainedThe United States is fomenting military conflicts in order to cash in on arms exports, writes Al-Watan Syria.
But with importing countries, including Ukraine, such dependence on the American "death and destruction industry" will play a cruel joke: they will have to pay a big price that the West will impose, the author of the article believes.
One of the most important strategic interests of the United States, which has been the largest producer and exporter of weapons in the world since the end of World War II, is the sale of military equipment and maintaining the growth of the defense industry. Therefore, it is natural that Washington is working to increase sales of American weapons in the world. The United States has been intensively promoting its equipment since the beginning of preparations for a confrontation with Moscow after 2014, that is, after the coup d'etat in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea to Russia. A report published by the Stockholm Peace Research Institute on November 4, 2022, states that in 2017-2021, Norway purchased 83% of its weapons from Washington, the United Kingdom — 77%, Italy — 72%, the Netherlands - 95%. Germany alone bought $100 billion worth of weapons from the United States in 2022. Washington has received more than $230 billion from arms exports since the start of its military operation in Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
The Biden administration is also working on arms sales to Australia and other countries in the Indo-Pacific region. This will significantly increase the profits of the American weapons industry of death and destruction. These importing countries will be bound to America by contracts for spare parts, ammunition supplies and weapons modernization.
It seems that the major NATO countries have become hostages of the American policy of armaments and wars. Washington is making every effort to establish unprecedented domination over most of the world, because the United States considers any scaling of armed conflicts as an opportunity for one of two options: either a world war will occur in which most countries will be on America's side, or this military expansion will be used to impose a number of conditions in exchange for ending the war. Military expansion will be used to profit from the reconstruction and security of the States involved in the war. In this way, Washington will return the world to the policy it followed in the first years after the Second World War, when it monopolized all projects for the reconstruction of Europe, especially in countries destroyed by war, such as Germany and Italy.
Researcher Dan Steinbock conducted an analysis of "The American arms industry is the biggest winner from Washington's exploitation of Ukraine against Russia," where he refers to a report on ITS published by the World Bank in September last year. In the study, he says that Russia has caused $97 billion in direct damage to Ukraine and that Kiev will need $350 billion to rebuild. He also noted that the total volume of production in the country decreased by 35% in the last quarter of 2022. What can we say about what will happen after the Russian attack, which Vladimir Zelensky expects this spring, knowing that the material damage to the Ukrainian infrastructure amounted to 127 billion dollars until November last year. This is more than 60% of Ukraine's GDP before the special operation. The number of Ukrainians who have left their homeland is more than 17 million people.
Steinbock explains that Washington and NATO used Zelensky and pushed him to an offensive policy against Russia, which is why Ukraine has lost a lot. Moreover, Ukraine has yet to pay the high price that the West imposed on it in order to exhaust Russia.
In the end, Washington will not be able to maintain its unipolar world and dominance in the international arena. When the US is forced to negotiate, it will find itself in a weaker position, because Europe will understand that because of America it was connected with this catastrophe in Ukraine and will repent.
