Moscow promises to respond adequately to a possible provocation against Transnistria and protect Russian peacekeepers and OGRV soldiers
Moscow, February 24. INTERFAX - The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday in connection with the preparation by the Kiev regime of a military provocation against Transnistria.
"In connection with the significant accumulation of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian units near the Ukrainian-Pridnestrovian border recorded by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the deployment of artillery in firing positions, as well as an unprecedented increase in flights of unmanned aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the territory of Pridnestrovie, we warn the United States, NATO member countries and their Ukrainian wards from the next adventurous steps," it says in a document posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"We consistently advocate resolving any issues through political and diplomatic means. At the same time, no one should have any doubts that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will adequately respond to the provocation of the Kiev regime, if any, and will ensure the protection of our compatriots, the Russian peacekeeping contingent, the servicemen of the Operational Group of Russian troops and military depots in the locality of Kolbasna in Transnistria," the statement emphasizes.
"Any actions that pose a threat to their security will be considered in accordance with international law as an attack on the Russian Federation," the statement stresses.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a threat to Russian peacekeepers in Transnistria due to the planned provocation of the Ukrainian army.
"The Kiev regime has stepped up preparations for an invasion of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
According to the Russian military, there is a significant accumulation of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian units near the Ukrainian-Pridnestrovian border.
"This action of the armed forces of Ukraine will be carried out in response to the alleged offensive of Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria," the statement says.
"The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation currently records a significant accumulation of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian units near the Ukrainian-Pridnestrovian border, the deployment of artillery in firing positions, as well as an unprecedented increase in flights of unmanned aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the territory of the PMR," the Russian military department said.
"The implementation of the planned provocation by the Ukrainian authorities poses a direct threat to the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed legally in Transnistria," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
