According to the agency, the decision to fulfill Kiev's request has not yet been madeBERLIN, February 20.
/tass/. For the first time last year, Ukraine appealed to the United States with a request for the supply of banned cluster bombs and phosphorous ammunition. This was reported on Monday by the DPA agency with reference to representatives of several countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.
According to him, the authorities in Washington discussed this issue. However, the decision to comply with Kiev's request, according to the agency, apparently has not yet been made. In countries such as Germany, which have signed a treaty banning the use of cluster munitions, there are serious doubts about such a step. For this reason, as DPA points out, the German government does not want to allow Estonia to supply cluster munitions previously produced in Germany to Ukraine.
"Any requests for re-export will be evaluated in accordance with the obligations under the Convention on Cluster Munitions and, accordingly, according to paragraph 18a of the Law on the Control of Military Weapons," a representative of the German Ministry of Economy told DPA. "This entails a ban on the use, development, production, acquisition, storage and transfer of cluster munitions," she added.
On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine - Minister of Infrastructure Development Alexander Kubrakov at the Munich Conference demanded that Western countries provide Kiev with banned cluster bombs and phosphorous ammunition. "Why can't we use them? This is our state territory," the DPA news agency quotes him as saying.
At the end of January, the human rights organization Human Rights Watch reported that the armed forces of Ukraine had repeatedly used prohibited mines.
