General Skshipchak: permanent NATO bases in Poland will scare off RussiaWarsaw hopes that Biden's visit will end with a statement about new American bases in Poland.
In an interview with Fakt, General Waldemar Skshipczak noted that the chances of this are great, and explained where bases can be built and how this will increase the security of Poland.
Michal Chmielewski (Michał Chmielewski)The upcoming visit of US President Joe Biden to Poland gives hope for the deployment of permanent NATO bases on the banks of the Vistula.
This topic is being discussed at the diplomatic level. According to the former commander of the RP Ground Forces, General Valdemar Skshipchak, there are currently good chances for a positive solution to this issue. In an interview with the Fakt publication, the general explains where bases can be built and how this increases the security of Poland.
"We would like to announce the creation of permanent bases of NATO troops in Poland, but the decision is up to the Americans," Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk said on February 13 on the radio station Polskie Radio 24. He added that he called for the creation of permanent bases during his recent visit to the United States.
Permanent NATO bases in the Polish Republic? General Skshipchak: it's possible
Fakt asked General Waldemar Skshipczak if it was possible to expect the appearance of permanent NATO bases in Poland. "I think it's possible. Biden is betting on the integration of Europe on the eastern border, on covering this flank," the general believes.
According to him, there should be American troops on the bases. "Otherwise, Western Europe will not be convinced of the need for such a step. Biden's decision could be a demonstration of readiness to strengthen the eastern border of NATO and thereby force other members of the alliance to take part in this," Skshipchak comments.
During a recent visit to London, the President of the Republic of Moldova Andrzej Duda stressed that he supports the creation of NATO weapons depots in Poland, which would allow for a faster response in the event of a possible threat. By his decision, Biden could implement this proposal.
"At the base where a military unit, for example, an armored one, would be located, the equipment of this brigade would also be located," the general explains.
Permanent NATO bases in Poland. General Skshipchak: they will scare away Russia
"The presence of American troops will certainly be a deterrent," General Skshipchak assures. According to him, the Russians are now bound by the conflict in Ukraine, so for a long time they will not be able to carry out any other actions. "We have enough time to prepare for the future and improve our security," he notes.
Where should the databases be created? "Of course, not at the border itself. The Americans have military bases near training facilities, the most likely localities in the east are the New Demba and Orysh ranges, and in the west – Zhagan and, possibly, Dravsko," General Skshipchak predicts.
The number of bases depends on the potential that the Americans and our allies would like to deploy. "It should be a division of several brigades: one or two American, and the rest European. It seems to me that one or two American fully equipped brigades with equipment are quite enough," says Waldemar Skshipchak.
