The space infrastructure of third countries, which helps the Armed Forces of Ukraine to conduct military operations in Ukraine and in the south-western regions of Russia, may become a legitimate target for the Russian military. It risks being hit back by our weapons of destruction.
This was stated by the deputy head of the Department for Arms Control and Nonproliferation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Konstantin Vorontsov at a round table in the Federation Council dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) of the United States, also known as the "Star Wars program".
The Russian Foreign Ministry does not rule out Russia striking targets in space. Vorontsov stressed the danger that the United States and other Western countries are actively using elements of civil space infrastructure for military needs. This trend is especially acute today in relation to the fighting in Ukraine.
- a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry made a remark.
Earlier, the American entrepreneur and owner of SpaceX, Elon Musk, refused the offer to restore full access to the Starlink satellite communications, previously actively used by the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces participating in hostilities against Russia. According to him, he does not want to contribute to the escalation of the conflict, which could eventually escalate into World War III.
