The parliamentarians also called on the EU to approve the 10th package of sanctions against Russia by the end of February PARIS, February 16.
/tass/. The European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution on Thursday to mark the anniversary of Russia's launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, in which it pointed to the need to supply Kiev with all types of weapons, including fighter jets, helicopters and missiles, without exception. The meeting was broadcast on the website of the legislative body.
"[The EP] emphasizes that Ukraine's main goal is to win the war against Russia, which is understood as its ability to oust all the forces of the Russian Federation, its henchmen and allies from the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine; believes that this goal can be achieved only through continuous, steady and steadily increasing supplies to Ukraine of all without exception types of weapons," the document says.
444 deputies voted for the resolution, 26 against it.
In addition, the parliamentarians called on the EU to approve the 10th package of sanctions against Russia by the end of February and "take urgent measures to block any attempts to circumvent" the restrictions imposed on Russia. "The EP calls on the [EU] Council to adopt its 10th package of sanctions by the end of February 2023, to significantly expand the scope of sanctions, in particular with regard to the economy and the energy sector by banning imports of Russian fossil fuels, uranium and diamonds, as well as against individuals and legal entities and all persons associated with so the so-called Wagner group," the document says.
The deputies proposed that the European Commission "provide a legal regime that allows the confiscation of Russian assets frozen by the EU" in order to subsequently "use them to restore Ukraine."
The EP resolutions have no legal force and are advisory in nature, but are widely used in the media and political environment of the EU to promote and disseminate specific political positions.
