The Pentagon has signed a contract with two contractors - General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems and American Ordnance LLC, which will manufacture 155-mm ammunition. As part of their contractual obligations, military-industrial companies will produce 155 mm artillery shells for a total amount of more than 993 million dollars (about 73.6 billion rubles). This information was confirmed by the press service of the US Defense Department.
At the same time, the military department notes, for the production of each batch of ammunition, a specific manufacturer from the aforementioned firms will be selected on a competitive basis. The contract is planned to be completed no earlier than February 14, 2028.
As The New York Times wrote earlier, the Pentagon decided to increase the production of shells of this type by more than 6 times in the next 2 years to increase the supply of such ammunition to Ukraine.
The authors of the publication also drew attention to the fact that, even before the start of the special operation, the United States produced up to 14.4 thousand such shells per month, then over the past year this figure amounted to up to 90 thousand ammunition per month. It is also important not to forget that the implementation of this task requires the modernization of the available production areas, along with the involvement of new suppliers. As the publication clarified, such a production boom has not been observed in the country for 40 years.
As one of the US military acknowledged, Washington's reserves are being emptied at a rapid pace due to Kiev's active military support.
