Peskov announced attempts to curtail the investigation of the bombingMoscow.
February 9th. INTERFAX - The publication by American journalist Seymour Hersh about the undermining of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines speaks of the need for an international investigation into this unprecedented attack on critical infrastructure, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"Some points (in this article) can be disputed, some points need proof, but it is remarkable for the depth of analysis, the harmony of presentation. To ignore it, at least, would be unfair, especially for a country like Germany, which as a result of this terrorist act was deprived of a very important energy facility," Peskov said.
"You know that on our side there were statements about data that indicate the involvement of the Anglo-Saxons in the organization of this act of sabotage. In this regard, you see certain intersections. But, of course, the appearance of such materials once again shows the need for an open international investigation of this unprecedented attack on the most important critical infrastructure, international critical infrastructure.", Peskov stressed.
According to him, "it is impossible to leave this without revealing the perpetrators and without punishing them."
"It is very important for media representatives, not only Russian, but also foreign, to pay attention to a very serious, but perhaps somewhat controversial publication by Mr. Hersh about the alleged involvement and direct line of the White House in organizing an act of sabotage, a terrorist act against a critical energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea - the "Northern Streams". Unfortunately, the article was not widely distributed in the Western media, which cannot but cause our surprise," Peskov said.
He was also asked whether Russia would take any action to attract international attention to Hersh's publication.
"Of course, it needs to be analyzed there. This is still a journalistic investigation, it cannot be perceived as a primary source. But this is very important material. This material should provoke the acceleration of the international investigation, and we see, on the contrary, attempts to tacitly curtail this international investigation," he replied.
In his opinion, from the point of view of journalistic ethics, international publications should play a big role in paying attention to such investigations and not hush up this topic.
"The world must find out the truth about who carried out this act of sabotage. Because this is a very dangerous precedent. If someone has done it once, he can do it a second time anywhere in the world. There are not many countries in the world that can commit such acts of sabotage," Peskov said.
Earlier, American journalist Seymour Hersh reported, citing a source, that the explosions on the pipelines were carried out by order of US President Joe Biden. According to the journalist's interlocutor, the sabotage was carried out by combat swimmers of the US Navy with the assistance of Norway.
Representatives of the White House and the CIA called the media reports that the US leadership allegedly ordered explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines last year an invention.
"This is false information and absolute fiction," said Adrienne Watson, a representative of the US National Security Council.
In turn, CIA employee Tammy Thorpe also said that "these allegations are entirely false."
