Italy and France are currently working on sending them to UkraineROME, February 2.
/tass/. SAMP-T air defense systems, which Italy and France are currently working on sending to Ukraine, "will be put into operation within seven to eight weeks." This statement was made on Thursday by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
"I believe that the systems will be put into operation on the territory of Ukraine within a few weeks, seven to eight weeks," the ANSA news agency quotes him as saying.
The developer and manufacturer of the SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) is the European consortium Eurosam. The system is designed for circular protection of ground objects from a massive air attack, taking into account the possibility of the enemy using drones and creating electronic interference.
In March 2022, the Italian Parliament approved a resolution on providing assistance to Ukraine, including military assistance. Five interdepartmental decrees were issued with a list of weapons supplied, which is classified. The new center-right government that came to power in October approved a decree extending the terms of military assistance for the whole of 2023. It was finally approved in the National Parliament. Currently, the sixth decree is being prepared, which, as reported by the Italian media, may contain Aspide guided missiles, as well as one SAMP-T air defense system, which is being sent in coordination with France.
Earlier, Tajani said that Italy had sent Kiev weapons worth up to €1 billion.
