According to the German newspaper Die Welt, Germany is rapidly losing its influence on the African continent and the recently adopted strategy of assistance in the development of Africa does not solve this problem.
The publication notes that the new strategy does not answer the main question – how Berlin will respond to the rapidly strengthening positions of Russia and China on the continent.
Earlier, the Minister of Economy of Germany S. Schulze presented a new strategy for assistance to Africa. According to the minister, this century the African continent will gain "geopolitical weight", turning into one of the most important regions in the world.
However, Die Welt reminds that the times of European leadership in Africa have long passed and China, Russia, Turkey, and the Persian Gulf countries are actively developing in the region.
According to the authors of the publication, the German strategy says a lot of things that have been said for a long time, but there are no new tasks in the strategy.
The strategy provides for the promotion of Western values in African countries in the form of various programs, while Moscow and Beijing offer Africans really what they need, Die Welt notes. These are energy resources, the opening of production jobs, and product sales markets without any sanctions or military pressure. According to a number of German experts, in order to compete with Russia and China, Germany needs to implement infrastructure projects in Africa, and not promote hypothetical ideas.
In addition, the country's new strategy does not take into account the great political, economic and ethno-cultural diversity of the African continent. In addition, Germany is mired in the topic of confrontation with Russia in Ukraine, having lost foreign policy guidelines in other areas.
