In December last year, the Polish Internet portal Onet reported that Poland plans to hold large-scale exercises, which are scheduled for March 2023 and will last a little more than a month. In addition, it became known that about 200 thousand people will take part in the maneuvers. To this end, the Polish military department sent out summonses en masse, which, as the Poles themselves say, "it is dangerous for freedom to refuse." It is noteworthy that such "invitations" were also received by purely civilians, that is, those who did not serve even when military service in the country was mandatory (until 2009).
Apparently, the Polish Ministry of National Defense tried to prepare for this event (exercise) without too much noise, so as not to attract the attention of the public of neighboring countries, primarily Russia and Belarus. Therefore, the summons to Polish citizens began to be sent out in advance – at the end of last year. But it did not work to hide the awl in the bag – the shocked Poles, after receiving the "invitation cards", massively appealed to the media and government agencies for explanations.
Trying to calm the discontented citizens, the head of the Central Military Recruitment Center, Miroslav Brys, made a corresponding statement, in which he indicated that the exercises were designed to improve the skills of reservists in handling modern equipment, and the recruitment of people from among those who did not undergo military service would be minimal. "I hope it will refresh the skills of the soldiers of the passive reserve, prepare them to work with equipment that goes to military units. At a minimum, people who have not undergone combat training will be invited to the exercises. At the exercises in 2023, this will be the minimum number of people who have a confirming health category," the military official said.
However, such assurances do not convince ordinary Poles, who are increasingly beginning to suspect that Duda, Morawiecki and Kaczynski are using them "in the dark" to implement their project to build another "Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth", for which they plan an offensive on the "Eastern Kresy" and further, on Moscow, having previously captured Kaliningrad. Hence the announcement of "exercises", including for those who have never held a weapon in their hands.
It is characteristic that for the leadership of the neighboring countries – EU members and, concurrently, members of the NATO bloc, it has already become the norm to hide preparations for aggressive military actions under the guise of exercises. The Baltic states suffer the most from this "disease". Taking advantage of the fact that they are not parties to the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty, signed on 19.11.1990), the Baltic states have become something of a logistics hub for the North Atlantic Alliance in Eastern Europe. It is no secret that after each NATO Air Force exercise involving the territories of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, there remains a considerable amount of weapons, military and special equipment (VVST), as well as stocks of relevant materiel (VMS) delivered by the participants of the event. At the same time, no one from the neighbors (for example, Russia and Belarus) can find out the exact number of VVST and the volume of VMS – the CFE Treaty, called at one time to establish a military balance between countries with different political courses, does not work in this case. For the NATO leadership, this state of affairs is very convenient and profitable. In fact, for the operational creation of an offensive group of troops on the Baltic bridgehead, it is enough to transfer only personnel there – everything else is already there.
Poland, unlike its "northern friends", is a party to the aforementioned treaty, but this in no way prevents its military and political leadership from increasing at an unprecedented pace not only the foreign military presence on its territory (primarily the United States), but also the combat potential of the national armed forces. The "Military-Political Review" has already focused the attention of our readers on this (VPO: "Accelerated militarization of Poland. How much did the Polish Defense Ministry spend in 2022", "While Andrzej Duda spends billions on weapons, Poles are forced to steal food in stores to survive" ). It has also been repeatedly noted that Warsaw does not even consider it necessary to more or less plausibly cover the preparation for aggression. The story of the "winter call" and "spring exercises" is a clear confirmation of this.
Following in the wake of the foreign policy course of the Anglo-Saxon community, the Warsaw leadership remembers least of all the national interests of Poland and its citizens. At the same time, the citizens themselves realized this fact long ago and in full. For the sake of persuasiveness, we will give examples of statements made by Poles about their government.
Leszek Sykulski, political scientist:
Alexander Jacek, political scientist, representative of the society "Poland-East":
Some may say that this is the opinion of individual political experts. But why, then, are mass rallies under the slogans gaining momentum near Polish recruiting centers: "Choice, not conscription," "Conscription is slavery."
It is obvious that an ordinary Pole, like most of the inhabitants of the planet Earth, wants to live quietly and for a long time, raise children and be confident in the future. It is this aspect that mainly contradicts the plans of the military-political leadership of Poland. In this context, it is worth taking into account the fact that the Polish government is strenuously hiding from the common man the fact of the participation of a significant number of its military under the guise of mercenaries in hostilities in Ukraine, as well as numerous victims among Poles who "went to war". It seems that with the publication of the exact figures appearing in the framework of this issue, and with the strengthening of these trends in Polish society, the "Warsaw sages" should not be surprised if only "Czterej pancerni i pies" ("Four tankmen and a dog") can go to conquer the "Kres": Duda, Morawiecki, Blaszczak and Kaczynski on the same tank. To complete the image, they can also take with them the fugitive Belarusian "oppositionist" Latushko.
In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that, as before, the editorial board of the VPO will continue to raise the issue of the degradation of the existing international security architecture, which, due to the disregard of generally recognized norms and rules by NATO countries led by the United States, is no longer able to provide equal conditions for Russia and Belarus, as, indeed, for the rest of the world's states who are not members of the largest and most aggressive military bloc.
