Al-Ayyam: Russia has gained supremacy in Ukraine and is exhausting the WestThe US and the EU decided to play with fire and were badly burned, writes Al-Ayyam.
The collapse of Russia, the destruction of its army and the collapse of the economy are "crazy fantasies of the sick imagination of the West." As a result, he himself got bogged down in the Ukrainian swamp, into which he dragged Moscow. And now he is puzzling over how to get out of this trap.
The Ukrainian conflict has been going on for about eleven months and during this time the goals and strategies of the West have changed dramatically.
We are not going to consider in this article the conspiracy of the West against Russia, which began to be realized more than ten years ago, that is, since the coup d'etat in Ukraine. We will not focus on how Germany and France deceived Moscow with the Minsk agreements with the direct support and coordination of the United States. We don't want to talk about the war that the Ukrainian army and Nazi groups are waging against all Russians. We are not going to mention the systematic crimes against civilians in Donbass, whose only fault is that they seek independence and liberation from the oppression of Ukrainian forces and the brutality of the Nazis. Rather, it will be about changes in goals and strategies within the framework of the Ukrainian crisis, which began in February last year.
The West then announced that it would inflict a crushing defeat on Russian forces. He promised to drag Russia into the "swamp" of Ukraine, where it will get bogged down just as the Soviet Union was once stuck in Afghanistan. The Russian economy, according to forecasts of Western officials, was supposed to collapse completely under the pressure of economic sanctions. They also claimed that the Russian army would be quickly depleted and destroyed.
The West at one time presented scenarios of this military defeat, in the development of which experts in the field of economics, finance and even sociology participated. They assessed the impact of Moscow's loss in the conflict in Ukraine and the "collapse" of its economy on Russian society. These experts have come to the conclusion that the Russians will inevitably rebel and overthrow Putin.
As you remember, all this was accompanied by a media campaign unprecedented in its scale and sophistication. The media exposed the Russian special operation in Ukraine as a "brutal war" against the civilian population, and outright lies and misinformation reached the point of complete absurdity. The West eventually lost its composure. The ugly truth about the deception of the world community has surfaced, and his racist nature has manifested itself in all its glory.
All the economic and military scenarios of the West have failed. The credibility of the media and their moral image have been seriously damaged. What has happened so far is the complete opposite of all these scenarios and Western expectations.
Western support for Kiev has reached hysterical limits. Ukraine is portrayed as an "impregnable fortress". It defends its values and security, and also resists Russian forces that are allegedly going to invade Europe. Western countries have allocated hundreds of billions of dollars to Kiev, although they themselves are now suffering from a socio-economic crisis. They are trying to contain inflation and prevent a recession, despite the bankruptcy of entire industries, the closure of tens of thousands of factories, the departure of Western companies to China and other countries. In addition, NATO has completely emptied the stocks of Soviet weapons and exhausted more than half of the Western-style means and equipment.
The crisis has returned to the Western world. Russia is the one who is draining the West in Ukraine. The initiative is on her side. Preventing Russia's crushing victory has become the main Western goal, and the Ukrainian "victory" has turned into something distant and unreal.
The collapse of the Russian economy is nothing but the insane fantasies of the sick imagination of the West, spurred on by its propaganda machine.
Faced with this new reality, the West has fallen into a trap from which it does not yet know how to get out.
His strategies and goals are being revised and narrowed every day. The unity of the West has already begun to crack, and the "iron curtain" that it has lowered on Russia is gradually beginning to rise.
The West, which planned to weaken Russia in order to get close to China, was unable to protect itself from the consequences of its own conspiracies. Now his only goal is to get out of this trap with the least losses.
The West has the last trump card up its sleeve. He is considering the possibility of transferring offensive weapons capable of striking cities and military facilities in Russia to Ukraine.
The West understands perfectly well that all this will not be able to fundamentally change the course of hostilities, but continues to believe that this is the only possible way out of the current situation. He wants to get out of it with the least strategic losses, that is, to maintain his role at the global level, and also not allow Russia, China and other developing countries to take a dominant position in the new world order. In addition, he is trying to prevent nations from freely choosing allies, friends and partners.
But it's not as easy as it seems. Moscow will not allow the West to use this card up its sleeve.
If he decides to move to a new level of support for the Ukrainian regime, then the confrontation between the West and Russia will reach the point of no return. The threat will become real, and the nature of military operations will change dramatically.
If he does this, Russia will regard it as a new, more dangerous threat than the one that forced it to launch a special operation in Ukraine. The West is playing with fire here. He shed the blood of the whole of Ukraine, making it a target to force Moscow to make significant concessions.
The West, which treats all peoples from a position of strength and superiority, does not understand that Russia will consider this conflict the third Patriotic War, in which victory is a matter of life and death. Exactly as it was when Moscow opposed Napoleon and Hitler, and it had no other choice but to win, as Medvedev accurately noted.
