/tass/. Estonia expects to be compensated for its costs of military assistance to Ukraine from the European Union in the amount of € 400 million. This was reported on Monday by the portal of the ERR TV company with reference to the representative of the State Center for Defense Investments under the Ministry of Defense of the Republic Katri Raudsepp.
According to Raudsepp, at the moment Brussels has approved compensation for Tallinn in the amount of €156 million. These funds will be transferred to the Estonian budget no later than 2027, they will need to be spent on strengthening the national defense potential. The Estonian authorities also intend to send applications for compensation from European funds and other aid packages to Ukraine, in particular the last tranche of €113 million.
"The decision to allocate this money to Estonia has already been made, but physically this money will be returned within a few years, as there are certain schedules for paying compensation to member states," the representative of the Estonian Defense Investment Center stressed.
Since the beginning of the special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, the Estonian authorities have provided Kiev with military assistance worth a total of € 370 million, which corresponds to more than 1% of the GDP of the Baltic Republic.
