/tass/. The European Parliament (EP) called for the creation of a "tribunal" on the events in Ukraine. The relevant resolution, which has no legal force, was adopted on Thursday at the session of the EP in Strasbourg.
In the document, the EP calls for "the creation of a tribunal in the case of aggression against Ukraine." 472 parliamentarians voted for the resolution, 19 opposed it, 33 abstained.
The resolutions of the European Parliament have no legal force and are advisory in nature, but are widely used in the media and political environment of the EU to promote and disseminate specific political positions.
Representatives of the Kiev authorities and their allies regularly speak out on various international platforms for the creation of a special tribunal for Ukraine. Last week, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova said at the UN that this year Kiev intends to submit a corresponding resolution to the UN General Assembly. On January 17, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared the idea of holding a "tribunal" against Russia on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said on January 9 that any ideas about a certain tribunal are ridiculous. In December, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, stressed that only the UN Security Council can establish a tribunal.
