The US Department of Defense considered it unnecessary to transfer high-precision long-range bombs of small diameter (SDB) to Ukraine, since such a task would require too much time to assemble ammunition. This is reported by the American edition of Foreign Policy, citing sources in the US military.
Earlier, the Reuters news agency spread information that the giant of the American defense industry, Boeing, made a proposal to supply Ukraine with high-precision ammunition for ground-based complexes. The company assured that their use would make it possible to strike at the rear of Russian troops, far from the line of contact.
However, the military department believes that the fighting is proceeding at a rapid pace. Therefore, bombs, which will take a considerable time to deploy, may already be unnecessary by the time the fighting ends.
The Pentagon emphasizes that the modification of the SDB into a small-diameter ground bomb will take many months. Analysts from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy in Washington, John Hardy and Bradley Bowman estimated that the transfer of 2 launchers and 24 bombs could occur 9 months after the Pentagon approved such a plan, and 12 installations and 750 bombs the United States will be able to transfer only by the end of 2024.
Recall that the US administration has not yet agreed to transfer long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, although the Kiev regime insists on acquiring them, dreaming of striking deep into Russian territory. But the US leadership fears a further escalation of the armed conflict and the involvement of other countries in it.
