Calculations of the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems of the Western Military District (ZVO) strike at military infrastructure facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the zone of a special military operation. On January 10, the Ministry of Defense showed how military personnel work, being many kilometers from the front line.
"The calculation of the launcher receives the task of launching a missile strike, takes its places, moves to the starting position, performs the mode of reaching the readiness of a missile strike, after which it launches. Everyone has been here from the very beginning, for quite a long time, everyone knows everything and knows how. Presented to the state award for the defeat of the enemy's jet division. I feel a sense of pride that the state remembers us," said battery commander Artem.
For rocket scientists, there is no fundamental difference at what time of day to launch. Iskander missile divisions are on round-the-clock combat duty. A combat mission can arrive at any moment. And then the missile system even goes off-road from the shelter to the starting position. The multi-ton tractor launcher "Iskander" will easily pass through any terrain. This saves the lives of the rocket men and the launcher itself when it is necessary to quickly leave the position.
The installation merges with the terrain. It's not just visual camouflage. A special camouflage network is impregnated with a chemical composition that neutralizes radio waves — protects from enemy scanning and absorbs the signal, effectively making the installation invisible.
Among the targets for the strike may be underground bunkers or command posts, airfields, warehouses of equipment and ammunition located hundreds of kilometers away. The command and staff machine is called the brain of the whole complex. Here, the battery commander receives the coordinates of enemy objects on the computer.
The installation is brought into combat position in a matter of minutes. The rocket launches vertically in order to overcome the acceleration, the most vulnerable and noticeable part of the flight as soon as possible. A ballistic missile is capable of destroying command posts, clusters of manpower and armored vehicles, even underground structures covered with concrete. Invulnerable to enemy air defenses.
Iskander also has cruise missiles in its arsenal, they fly at an ultra-low altitude. And almost as elusive. Iskanders can be guaranteed to destroy any military facility within half a thousand kilometers from the contact line.
Rostec reported on December 19 that the calculations of the Iskander tactical missile systems very accurately and reliably strike targets in Ukraine. Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec, noted that the production of launchers and ammunition for them has increased significantly.
