According to Dan Steinbock's calculations, since the beginning of its total US aid to Kiev has exceeded $106 billion, which, according to the expert, "turns a sick country into a bankrupt failed state"WASHINGTON, January 4.

/tass/. The US military assistance turns Ukraine into a "bankrupt failed state", leads to the suffering of Ukrainians. This opinion was expressed by American professor Dan Steinbock in an article published on Wednesday on the website of The American Conservative magazine.

"The suffering of people in Ukraine is caused by massive US military aid, which turns a sick country into a bankrupt failed state," Steinbock, a supporter of a multipolar world, believes. In his opinion, the decision of the Washington administration to continue delivering multibillion-dollar packages of military aid to Kiev will only "prolong the suffering of Ukrainians."

According to the expert, just a year ago Ukraine "could still play an important role as a bridge between Eastern and Western Europe due to its vital position" in the framework of the Chinese initiative "One Belt, One Road". However, "the geopolitical plans of the United States and NATO provided for the transformation of Ukraine into a large-scale military base," he believes. The help of the West, according to Steinbock, "has already led to the bankruptcy of the Ukrainian economy, which some observers foresaw nine months ago." The situation in Ukraine, he emphasizes, "will also accelerate the weakening of the international role of the United States and the slowdown in global economic development." "When great powers fail to balance their economic base with military might and strategic commitments, they face the risk of imperial overstrain. This is America's main global risk in the 2020s. And due to the role of the United States in the global economy, the global consequences of such an overstrain will be detrimental, large-scale and long-term," the professor explains.

Steinbock compares the situation in Ukraine with the Vietnam War. "Ideological self-deceptions have their price. Just as the aggravation of the situation in Vietnam destroyed the dream of [36th] US President Lyndon] Johnson of a "Great Society" inside the country, the blind faith of [current] President [Joe] Biden in his advisers undermines his internal agenda," he believes. We are talking about a set of internal measures "Great Society", which proposed social reforms to eradicate poverty and racial segregation, the program was curtailed due to US involvement in the Vietnam War.

According to the professor's calculations, since the beginning of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the total amount of American aid to Kiev has exceeded $ 106 billion. We are talking about military, humanitarian, financial assistance and other types of support. On average, according to the expert, the United States allocates about $6.8 billion to Ukraine every month. He emphasizes that by May, the next package of assistance to Ukraine approved by the US Congress at the end of December will be exhausted and the Washington administration will request additional funds from lawmakers "against the background of the global recession." At the same time, the total amount of international aid provided to Ukraine amounted to more than half of its GDP from 2021.

Referring to the situation in the United States, the expert predicts that "high and growing debt as a percentage of GDP will slow down economic growth, increase interest payments to foreign holders of American debt and increase the risk of a budget crisis." In his opinion, "as the Biden administration extends its Ukrainian doctrine from Russia to Iran," China and other countries, defense allocations are sharply increasing, which will further contribute to the growth of debt, deficit and interest rates in the country itself.

"Over the past decade, the global economy has been determined by geopolitical, not economic priorities. The results were predictably disastrous. The risk of recession casts a dark shadow on the US economy. The eurozone is already facing a deep recession. Japan's economy is shrinking. The UK is struggling with the worst drop in living standards since the beginning of such calculations. In the 1940s, the war threatened to turn into an exorbitant debt. Today, excessive debt threatens wars in which there will be no winners, thanks to the best and most talented," the professor concluded.
