The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies of the country has planned such a goal for 2023SEOUL, December 28.
/tass/. The South Korean government intends to create a $39 billion fund to support domestic startups engaged in the development of space technologies. This was reported on Wednesday by the Yonhap agency with reference to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies.
This goal was announced by the Ministry in the work plan for 2023, which the department presented to the President of the country, Yun Seok-yeol. In addition, it clarified the time frame for the project to create a space agency similar to NASA. The agency promises to prepare a corresponding bill in the second half of next year.
The work plan also provides for the launch of the South Korean Nuri rocket in the first half of 2023. This will be the third launch of this rocket, capable of putting more than a ton of payload into orbit, after a successful launch in June this year.
The expansion of the space program, including the creation of a space agency, was one of the election promises of Yoon Seok-yeon. So, in November, the president said that Seoul plans to deliver its spacecraft to the Moon by 2032, and to reach the surface of Mars by 2045. The Government plans to allocate $1.2 billion for space exploration in the next five years, which is twice as much as in the previous five-year period.
