In the Kherson direction, together with the gunners, the only Arctic motorized rifle group in Russia performs combat tasks. She corrects the work of armored vehicles, said December 27 correspondent of "Izvestia" Mary Badunts.
The enemy's positions are several kilometers away, so the positions of the gunners are camouflaged. The cold greatly hinders the movement of infantry on both sides. But the Arctic brigade is confined to work in the harshest conditions.
"Despite the fact that we were preparing for the north, for the defense of the northern borders, here the brigade shows itself at the highest level. There was not a single task that our brigade could not fail to perform," said the commander of the 80th separate motorized rifle brigade (Arctic) with the call sign Koldun.
The signalman with the call sign Zvezda said that when the enemy went on the attack from three directions, after fierce fighting, he took command. They moved forward with the group, surrounded the enemy and captured the fighters of the Ukrainian armed formations.
"We captured them because they are also people, our fraternal people. To kill them just like that — unarmed, who voluntarily surrender — would be an atrocity. There were eight prisoners in total," said a soldier of the 80th separate Motorized rifle Brigade with the call sign Zvezda, who captured the enemy.
He continued the story about how the AFU militants opened mortar fire on their own and others — some of the prisoners died. The rest of the Star pulled out from under fire to a safe place. For this fight, he received the "Hero of Russia". And there are a lot of people like him in the unit: all servicemen have several combat awards. Five people were awarded the Gold Star medal.
The commander of the motorized rifle company of the Arctic brigade with the call sign Terek showed a warm, equipped dugout, which is also a command and observation post. Here the servicemen rest between combat shifts, information about the fighting also comes here. Instead of the usual Arctic snow dunes, it is necessary to master sandy steppes, but they quickly adapted to such conditions, despite the fact that the temperature is above zero until the end of December.
"In the dugout, you can move at full height. Inside, cleanliness and army order. Mug to mug, spoon to spoon. It's warm, even hot, they heat it with a diesel stove," the correspondent said.
For the New Year's holiday, the Arctic group will decorate the dugout. But the servicemen will spend the most family holiday on the front line, making combat sorties and performing new tasks every day.
