/tass/. More than 3 thousand candidates from Belarus have applied for a space flight, six applicants have been selected from them. This was announced by the Deputy chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus Oleg Chernyshev on Saturday.
"Initially, more than 3 thousand candidates. Six of the most worthy ones have come out, they are currently undergoing a full-time medical examination, more than half of the planned studies have been carried out," Chernyshev said during the visit of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (CPC) in Zvezdny Gorodok.
According to the deputy chairman of the Presidium of the NAS, the morale of the candidates is high, the physical condition is good. "We look after them ourselves, because six girls in a purely male team enjoy increased attention," he said.
In turn, one of the applicants, who has been working as a doctor for more than four years, noted that the tests are at the limit of human capabilities. "I represent doctors, doctors. It would seem that doctors cannot be surprised by something like this, but the CPC surprised us with its examinations - almost on the verge of human capabilities," she stressed.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko joked that he would take her to his doctor if she did not pass the selection for cosmonauts.
The Belarusian leader visited the simulator of the Russian segment of the ISS, the hydro laboratory, talked with the applicants of the republic for a flight into space, who were tested in a centrifuge on Saturday. They will also have to check physical fitness, health status, vestibular apparatus on the Coriolis acceleration chair.
On December 24, the President of Belarus arrived at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center accompanied by the State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev. He was met at the CPC by the head of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov, the executive director of Roscosmos for Manned Space Programs Sergey Krikalev and the head of the Cosmonaut Training Center Maxim Kharlamov.
