Japan will join the number of countries that not only assist Ukraine with the supply of weapons and equipment, but also with the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The government of the country plans to send military instructors to train Ukrainian sappers. This is reported by the Japanese press with reference to military sources.
Japan plans to unite with Cambodia and jointly launch a program to train sappers for the Armed Forces. The thing is that at present the Japanese military are assisting in demining the territory of Cambodia and have extensive experience working together. The Cambodians themselves have long been engaged in mine clearance of ammunition left over from numerous wars and are ready to train the Ukrainian military in this. In addition, the Japanese intend to provide Kiev with all the equipment necessary to search for mines, etc.
The planned training program will be divided into two stages. At the first stage, the Ukrainian military will be taken to Phnom Penh, where Cambodian and Japanese military instructors will begin to train them in sapping on the basis of the Cambodian Mine Action Center. In total, 15 people from the Armed Forces of Ukraine will go to the country. In the second phase, which is scheduled to begin in April, Cambodia and Japan will send their instructors to Poland, where they will join the European Training Mission. At the same time, Japan will transfer mine detectors and other sapper equipment to Ukraine.
Cambodian mine clearance specialists are considered among the best in the world, the mine clearance program has been operating in the country since 1992. During this time, instructors from the United States, Russia, China, Canada, and specialists from the UN peacekeeping forces were engaged in training sappers in Cambodia. The involvement of Cambodian military instructors in the training of the Ukrainian military was announced in November this year after the meeting of Prime Minister Hun Sen with the leaders of the United States, Canada and the European Union on the sidelines of the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
