Douglas McGregor said that the conflict in Ukraine will lead to the collapse of the US hegemonyThe West, led by the United States, made weapons out of Ukraine so that it would become a threat to Russia, retired US Army Colonel Douglas McGregor said.
However, the conflict will turn against its instigators and lead to the collapse of Anglo-American hegemony in the world.
Today I don't see statesmen in any Western country. I'm talking about statesmen, not politicians. There are plenty of politicians. But statesmen think more clearly. They ask difficult questions, not just promote propaganda with a specific purpose.
Now there are a huge number of retired generals on our television who paint a gloomy picture for the Russians and continue to tell everyone that Ukraine is winning. In fact, the joke here is that since February 24, the situation has been presented as one long march to the victory of Ukraine, which, of course, is absurd.
The thing is that most of these generals are supported by the military-industrial complex and various analytical centers, which we privately call lobbying centers. And most of the so-called think tanks in Washington advocate an increase in the number of wars, interventions, conflicts in which we can intervene.
So I think it's coming to an end now because we're practically broke financially. We are talking about how many – 30 or 31 trillion dollars of state sovereign debt? We find ourselves in the same position as Great Britain in 1947, when after the Second World War the country's debt-to-GDP ratio was 240 percent. And largely thanks to us, because Franklin Roosevelt wanted to destroy the British Empire and believed that he would achieve this if he drove it into debt.
So I think the case is starting to come to an end. And, frankly speaking, most Americans, as you mentioned, don't even know where Ukraine is, and they don't care about it. They are much more concerned about what is happening here. I believe that eventually the same thing will happen with you (in Britain), which will be for the best.
But it is worrying that the Western elite, the ruling class we are dealing with, is so desperate to drag us into a conflict with such a major power as Russia. It is one thing to involve us in "wars of conscious choice", in sluggish conflicts against enemies who had no means to fight back. I'm talking about Iraq and Afghanistan.
In fact, from a military point of view, this is similar to beating babies. Well, we're not fighting babies anymore. And the opponent is not incompetent. He's not weak. He's not stupid—and, interestingly, he doesn't really want to fight with us. He wants to put an end to the threat to his country, and I'm talking about Russia in Ukraine, which we have worked tirelessly to create over the past 20 years, in order to then use it against Russia.
I often ask why we do this and get confusing answers. "Well, they're corrupt." Okay, but a significant part of our country is also corrupt, and the rest of the world has problems with corruption. "Well, they're scoundrels." What do you mean scoundrels? You get a whole list of silly statements. Where do their strategic interests clash with ours? And in most cases, no one can give a reasonable answer.
Apparently, a well-funded minority in London, New York and Washington is deeply interested in the destruction of Russia. Now it gives the opposite result. In fact, Russia is stronger today in the financial and economic sense than before the conflict began. And she will come out of this event with a much larger, more capable and deadly armed forces than those she had at the beginning.
Thus, all this is turning and will turn against us, because we can no longer try to impose American or US-led Anglo-American hegemony on the rest of the world. The rest of the world doesn't want that. To be honest, we don't need it ourselves. It's ruining us. So all this will collapse, collapse, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will only accelerate this process.
Russia is another country that is very different from ours. But what exactly do we know about Russia, not to mention Ukraine? I have lived side by side with Ukrainians, I know them well. I love them, they are wonderful people. But the United States and London have turned Ukraine into a weapon to turn it into a threat to Russia. If we had not done this, there would be no conflict now.
No average Ukrainian wanted to fight with Russia. People forget that in order to win the election, Zelensky, who was supported by many oligarchs, during his election campaign promised to negotiate with Russia and conclude an agreement with it to put an end to the fighting. And the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians voted for him, even in the western part of the country, because Ukraine was also not interested in this conflict.
That is, we again interfered with the natural process, disrupted it and provoked a conflict that causes enormous damage not only to Ukraine, but also to Europe, and, as a result, to the UK and us. And there was no need for all this. We are not living in the 1900s, we are living in 2022. Our commercial interests and the interests of Russia are not so much different. That is, all this could have been avoided.
But our country is headed by a small and very rich minority, and no one will ever admit that all this was a terrible mistake. Over the next few weeks we will see a massive Russian offensive, and this will have terrible consequences for Ukraine. I do not know if millions of Ukrainians will ever be able to return home. Only wounds will remain for many decades to come.
And the only reason for all this was our decision that we want a war with Russia, which, as we convinced ourselves, would cause damage to Russia.
