Boulevard Voltaire journalist is sure that NATO has revealed its involvement in the conflict in Ukraine Frederic Lasse, a columnist for the French edition of Boulevard Voltaire, believes that the situation in Ukraine threatens to start a "total war".
The journalist is sure that it is necessary to "take seriously the risk of escalation", in which Russia will openly clash with NATO.
"A major war with NATO"
The author of the article, Frederick Lasse, recalled the words of former Lieutenant General Robert Magowan, who commanded the British Marines, published in the Times. He admitted that they took part in secret "cautious operations" in Ukraine in an "extremely sensitive situation." According to him, the missions were associated with a "high level of political and military risk."
"This is a secret war, which is in addition to the one waged much more openly by thousands of foreign fighters who joined Ukraine to fight against the Russian army," the Boulevard Voltaire article says .
According to Lasse, there were quite a lot of revelations that helped strengthen the feeling in Russia that it was fighting against NATO.
He also recalled the interview of the head of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg to the Norwegian TV channel NRK. The NATO Secretary General said he was "afraid" that the conflict in Ukraine "will get out of control and turn into a big war between NATO and Russia." He also clarified that he was "confident" that this would be "avoided."
The author of the French edition believes that Stoltenberg's words "hardly call into question" the Russian Federation's confidence that it is in conflict with the North Atlantic Alliance, and not with the "Kiev regime".
"Under what conditions could this war escalate into a larger war with the direct participation of NATO? Secret. Nevertheless, the threat was voiced, and we would be wrong if we did not take this risk of escalation seriously," the journalist is sure.
Lasse also suggested that "the announcement last June of the creation of a permanent headquarters of American troops in Poland and the deployment of the 101st airborne division of the United States "Screaming Eagles" in Romania, near the border with Ukraine" could be "preparation for a confrontation with Russia."
The author also stated that in the situation in Ukraine, "neither side is ready to make territorial concessions," and Kiev is "replenishing its forces" and "probably will resume hostilities later."
"In these conditions, which seem to close the door to negotiations, what will the Americans and their allies do in the face of a successful Russian counteroffensive that will endanger the Zelensky regime? Wouldn't there be a great temptation to enter Ukraine in order to secure its western part? Perhaps not in order to directly engage in battle with the Russians, but rather in order to establish itself as a kind of intermediary force and achieve a ceasefire," Lasse wondered.
NATO in Ukraine
On October 16, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov in the program "Moscow. Kremlin. Putin" on the Rossiya 1 TV channel said that NATO has de facto become a participant in the Ukrainian conflict.
According to him, the fact that the North Atlantic Alliance actually "got into" the conflict does not affect Moscow's tasks in any way. Peskov is confident that the military special operation will be brought to an end. Answering the question of how much harder it is for Russia because of the alliance's intervention, the Kremlin representative replied that it is "significantly harder."
"This probably requires our internal economic and other mobilization. One thing is the Kiev regime, and another thing is the potential of NATO. This is an additional burden. But our potential allows us to continue the operation in these conditions," the Kremlin representative believes.
On November 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that "there are more and more facts that indicate that there is a confrontation between Russia and NATO in Ukraine."
"An increasing number of military specialists from the alliance countries are fighting as part of a dozen private military companies and the Armed Forces of Ukraine," she said at a briefing.
On December 1, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that all law enforcement agencies of the country noted an increase in the number of provocations near the border with Ukraine.
"Ukraine, under any pretext, is most likely trying to draw the troops of NATO member states into the conflict. All this is confirmed by the recent fall of a rocket on the territory of Poland," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
He noted that against this background, Western states continue to increase the military potential of their armed forces, modernize the infrastructure on the territory of neighboring countries, increase the intensity of operational and combat training activities.
"All this leads to an aggravation of the already difficult military-political situation around our country and in the region as a whole," Lukashenko stressed.
