Military expert Leonkov: Western media have begun to soberly assess the situation in UkraineArticles are increasingly appearing in the Western media, where the situation in Ukraine is more soberly assessed.
Military expert Alexey Leonkov told Izvestia about this on December 8.
Thus, he commented on an article by Newsweek columnists David Randell and Michael Gfeller that a turning point in the Ukrainian conflict had come due to the strengthening of Russian military personnel and the weakening of the Kiev regime.
"We see a clash of countries in different weight categories. Russia has its own military-industrial complex, which operates using its own resources. Ukraine is completely dependent on Western supplies, and there are problems with them. The economies of the USA and Europe were not ready for the scale of what is happening, they depend on supplies from outside. It is objective and difficult to hide, people are beginning to see it and it is impossible to keep silent about what is happening. Against this background, conversations began about a turning point not in favor of Ukraine," the expert said.
He noted that in the West they write two types of articles. In some — political ones — they continue to promise to ensure Ukraine's victory. In others, more serious experts began to say that Ukraine is completely dependent on supplies from abroad, the only resource it has left is people, Leonkov explained.
"Another reason for the appearance of such articles is the death of foreigners. Hiding it in the same Europe is becoming increasingly difficult. The media have more freedoms there than in Ukraine, and people see growing military cemeteries, and it is impossible to say that only volunteers died. Poland has rubbed 1,700 people, and it's all in plain sight. Against the background of the economic crisis, the support of Ukraine in the military conflict annoys many. To explain to people why they started sacrificing their compatriots and for what, it does not work," the expert said.
He added that Western politicians are afraid of a wave of protests, "they are trying to smooth it out with such articles, to give hope that everything will end soon."
"But I would not hope that the West will stop supporting me," Leonkov concluded.
Earlier, on November 30, retired US Marine Intelligence officer Scott Ritter, in an interview with the Judging Freedom YouTube channel, said that the Russian army would win in Ukraine by the end of summer 2023.
On November 27, journalist, military theorist of the Iranian edition Kayhan Seyid Mohammad-Amin Abadi expressed the opinion that even the help of NATO countries cannot bring Ukraine victory in the conflict with Russia. As the author of the article noted, for nine months since the beginning of the special military operation, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, has not achieved his goals for the return of the territory of Crimea to the country.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
