Iran will take part in the meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held on Monday, December 5, in Moscow. A delegation of Iranian parliamentarians arrived in Russia today.
The delegation headed by the Chairman of the Commission of the Majlis of the Islamic Council of Iran on National Security and Foreign Policy, Vahid Jalalzadeh, landed at Moscow airport today. As stated, the delegation plans to negotiate with Russian colleagues, as well as participate in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly as an observer.
- the CSTO press service said in a statement.
It is worth noting that Iran is quite actively cooperating not only with Russia, but also with other CSTO countries, in particular Armenia. Judging by the available information, Tehran has not submitted an application to join the CSTO. But Iran seeks to join other organizations that do not cooperate with the United States and its allies. In particular, Iran acts as an observer in the SCO - Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which acts as an alternative center of the union of countries in contrast to the pro-Western club of the "Big Seven". In September, Iran signed a memorandum of commitment to join the SCO.
Iran has also applied to join BRICS, an interstate association of five states: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The current members of the organization will have to develop criteria for the entry of new countries into the organization and begin discussing the conditions for acceptance on the basis of consensus.
